 Flowers have been with humans for about 130 million years till now. As early as 2500 BCE Egyptians were using flowers for decorations. They used flowers for table setting and for burial. Ancient Greek and Romans also used flowers for herbs. The Chinese were also using flowers for religious and medicinal purposes. Europeans also started using flowers especially in

Churches and mostly for decorations. Today, flowers are used for so many things. From expressing love to relieving you from that gnawing stomach pain.

 Aside flowers having a beautiful appeal to the eyes, they have awesome benefits you would never think of. In this blog, the benefits of flowers are under four sub topics. These topics include Heath Benefits, Financial Benefits, Psychological Benefits and Environmental Benefits.

Health Benefits 

Could you believe that flowers have health benefits? Of course they do. Flowers like sunflower and hibiscus contain herbs used for herbal tea which gives a soothing relief to the stressed. In the healing process, flowers tend to relieve patients from depression and anxiety which makes them feel better. Marigold for example can be used as an immune booster and it also reliefs stomach pain.

 Chamomile can also be used as tea and it is good for sore throat, runny nose and skin care. Sunflower seeds also contain vitamins, phosphorus, magnesium and other essential nutrients. Aside that, sunflower seeds control high blood pressure and aids in digestion. Cornflowers also are used to treat acne while valerian and California poppy flowers relieve menstrual pains. Amazingly, people include flowers in their diets. Rose petals for instance are used in the preparation on food. Ancient Chinese used rose flowers to improve digestion. Sunflowers are also used in making cooking oil with low saturated fat.

 Financial Benefits 

Flowers are being used for occasions. They include weddings, Valentine's day, birthdays, funerals, home decor, offices and many more. During the Valentine season, flowers make hot sales. Thus, creating an avenue for florist to make money from their consumers. Florists mostly use flowers such as roses, Lilies, Orchids and Chrysanthemum for wedding decor and in making bouquets.

Also, people who practice flower farming can make money directly into their pockets since the can sell more flowers on such occasions.

 Flower farmers can also export the flowers the grow to other countries. Again, the scents in flowers are used to make perfumes and lavenders. Typically, the rose flower has a fine perfume. For that matter is has been named as the “Queen of Flowers”. Jasmine also has a pure essence which gives perfume a complete finshing. These fragrances in flowers are primary sources of monies for people who deal in the perfume industry.

 Psychological Benefits 

Flowers can have great impact on our minds and feelings. How excitng it feels to receive a bouquet of flowers! It made you feel happy right?

  •  A study conducted by University of Northern Florida has proven that flowers can alleviate stress. As a matter of fact, flowers do a lot more than decorating the office. They have some great impact on a worker's productivity. When workers are under so much pressure, they feel more relaxed when they set their eyes on  flowers.


 Flowers spark creativity. Most people in the creative world reveal that they are always inspired by nature. Flowers are gifts bestowed to man by mother nature. Many painters, poets and writers have been inspired by staring at flowers from a distance .


 Environmental Benefits 

Have you ever realized the benefits flowers impart on the environment. If you haven't then I tell you that flowers are very beneficial to the environment.

During photosynthesis, the leaves of the flowers absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen needed for breathing. Some flowers can reduce soil erosion since they cover the top soil of lands.

 Aside that flowers serve as ornaments both inside and outside houses. They beautify schools, offices, and roads. The growth of flowers attract students to go to school too. 

Scientist have found that more plants including flowers improve the quality of air we breathe in. This makes the environment a safe place of living. Some flowers also cleans up contaminated water and soil.

Sunflowers have been proven to absorb high radiation without being destroyed. Roots of flowers that live in water are known to cleanse the water bodies from toxic metals and other chemicals.

 Honestly, I say for a fact that the benefits of flowers are non exhaustive. Flowers have a whole world on its own. The next time you buy flowers do not only look at its beauty but rather consider these benefits.
